From filling right up to pasteurisation and marking of packs: Focus on ready meals

Customer event: Ready Meal Days at MULTIVAC

17.09.2026

Wolfertschwenden, 17 September 2026 – How can ready meals in trays be processed and packaged efficiently, reliably and automatically? MULTIVAC provided answers to this question at the beginning of September during "Ready Meal Days" at the company's headquarters in Wolfertschwenden. The focus of the customer event was on integrated solutions for the industrial-scale processing and packaging of convenience products – from the filling process through to packaging and pack marking, and right up to the gentle pasteurisation of the product. More than 100 visitors took part in the event.

Wide range of solutions for convenience applications

As part of the event, the company presented its wide range of solutions for ready meal applications. The live demonstration of equipment included a "Convenience line" with its TX 620 traysealer, a filler from GS Italia and a MULTIVAC labeller, as well as the compact T 305 and T 255 traysealers in conjunction with a stand-alone filler for small production batches. In addition to this, MULTIVAC also demonstrated an AI-supported vision system for quality control of ready meals, which automatically identifies various product variants, as well as checking the arrangement of the individual components within the tray. This solution enables a higher level of automation and very reliable quality control to be achieved within the process, even with frequent changes of product variants, and it makes a significant contribution to reducing wastage, as well as ensuring a consistent product presentation. To complete the event, the participants also gained an insight into equipment features specific to particular applications, as well as practical examples from the marketplace, together with details of packaging concepts and MULTIVAC's range of intelligent services.

Packaging and pasteurising in one continuous process

There was a particular focus on the inline packaging and pasteurising of ready meals: Together with the Gigatherm company, MULTIVAC presented a process, which combines packaging and microwave pasteurisation. “The solution is designed on the basis of a continuous production process, and its main features are process reliability and a high level of product quality,“ explains Franziska Schreiber, Product Manager for Traysealers at MULTIVAC. “At the same time it opens up great flexibility with packaging concepts and recipes. The very gentle pasteurising process creates intensive aromas, compelling sensory sensations and a product shelf life of 30 to 50 days, as well as ensuring that high standards of hygiene and product safety are achieved.“
